Daniel Loewenthal

Daniel Loewenthal is an experienced filmmaker, producer and director. His career began as an assistant editor, starting in documentaries with Maysles Films and then caught the independent feature boom and rose quickly as a long form editor. Dan had a very strong story telling talent that found an easy expression in feature films and documentaries.

In the late 80’s he relocated to Los Angeles where he edited over 40 feature films; many times editing on location in foreign countries. He has worked for major film studios (Paramount, Orion, Turner Productions) and independent producers Dino Dilaurentis and Cannon films. Dan has edited in nearly every genre and format: action, comedy, independent films, music videos, commercials, infomercials, corporate videos, pieces for museum art installations and content for the web. Many of the pictures he edited had major box office and film festival success (Sundance, Palm Springs, Cannes.) His credits include The Cutting Edge, Voices in Wartime, The Music in You, Missing in Action, Stephen King’s Silver Bullet, Friday the 13th Part IV., Cadillac Ranch, Red Scorpion, and many others. On many of these films he directed second unit.

An Independent film, Hard Choices, edited and co-produced by Dan was touted as a “10 best of the year” pick, by Siskel and Ebert in 1986. Critic Stanley Kauffman of the New Republic cited the film’s “fluent editing.” In the mid nineties, Dan formed an award winning, production company, CEG, with 3 partners. From 1994- 2001, he was a managing partner and president, supervising all phases of production and post-production. During this period, CEG had 25 full time employees and did over 200 productions for TV and feature films. The projects ranged from Discovery Channel series, Direct Response ads, documentaries, corporate videos and post-supervision and editing on feature films. Dan produced and directed all the shows and helped develop a successful company. His clients at CEG included Microsoft, Eastman Kodak, Metrx, Black and Decker, Discovery Channel, Rhino Records and Full Moon Entertainment Since leaving CEG, Dan has worked for Mattel Entertainment, Bravo, in addition to many documentaries, long form DR and corporate videos. His work in the last few years has taken him to Egypt, China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Europe and the Caribbean.
